Philippians 1:27: “Just one thing: Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or am absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, working side by side for the faith that comes from the gospel,”

I love how this verse starts with a simple phrase: “Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”  Sometimes, I think we have the tendency to over analyze Scripture and dream up these complicated, step-by-step plans about how to be a better Christian.  But honestly, simple phrases like this can provide a Biblical worldview to live by.  Yes, studying the Bible is vital to your relationship with Christ, but you don’t have to exhaust yourself trying to find all of the answers.

So what does it look like to live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel?  Take a look at the rest of the verse. Stand firm in your faith, have the mind and attitude of Christ, and surround yourself with encouraging believers who have a passion for sharing the good news. The cool thing is, these three things all work together. If you’re missing one, it will be difficult to uphold the rest. Have you ever tried to stand firm in your faith without daily communication with Christ or friends to keep you accountable?  There’s a reason they are all mentioned together.

How do you know the mind and attitude of Christ?  Ask God for a desire to know Him and then read about His life in the book of John (or Matthew, Mark, Luke). Just like any relationship, it takes time to get to know Him. Trust me, this relationship is the most important and the most rewarding. He will not disappoint!
