1 Peter 1:14-16: “14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. 15 But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; 16 for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.”
Remember when you were a small child? You might have touched a hot stove just to see if your mom was really telling the truth…or you might have eaten a crayon just because you thought your kindergarten teacher was lying about the taste. Children do the silliest things because they are learning. As they grow up and experience the world around them, they no longer do things like that out of ignorance.
1 Peter tells us not to conform to the desires of our former ignorance. If we are growing in our Christian lives, we cannot act like those who are lost. That time has come and gone. We know what is expected of us because of the Word of God. We have to be set apart because of the knowledge bestowed upon us through the revelation of Jesus Christ. What a high calling we have been entrusted with! Ask the Lord for the ability to represent Him well.
